Galvanized by Fire

The process of wood firing ceramics, for over three decades, has been the creative touchstone that changed the course of my life. This elusive, poetic Nature and the kilns subtle, yet broad color palette forged the collaboration between my intuition for the material and the unequaled power of these timeless kilns.

My work has a lot to do with typical painterly concerns of an abstract expressionist. I use composition to express attitude, defiance, power, and the mysterious provocative sensibilities of nature. Decades of research and practical applications have provided opportunities for developing innovative surfaces. Sculptures, Vessels and Chargers evoke reflections of the human condition through tactile inflections and my unique vision of form.

Artistically, I focus on framing the unpredictable; intent on capturing gesture in form, and the passionate vitality from the fire. This blending of both historical references and contemporary intellectual values has galvanized the work, my intuitive approach and aesthetic vision.
